Cafe Snacks
|
While the variety and flavours may differ from cafe to cafe, there are some common and less common, but still delicious and worthwhile! - snacks on espresso bar menus. The following are some definitions of foods carried by establishments.
BABKA - a rich sweet coffeecake baked with a variety of sweet fillings.
BAGEL - a donut-shaped roll with a tough, chewy, tasty texture, made from dough that is quickly boiled then baked.
BISCOTTI - crispy, crunchy Italian cookies great for dipping in
coffee!
GELATO - Italian ice cream.
KNISH - potato and onion, among other fillings, stuffed in thin dough and baked. An East European treat!
LATKE - fried grated-potato pancakes, often with a hint of onion for extra flavour.
PANINI - Italian sandwiches, grilled or cold, made with such fillings as vegetables, cheese, and meat.
RUGELACH - bite-size chocolate and/or fruit-filled pastry.
SAMOSA - mixture of potatoes, peas, carrots and Indian spices, ground up and stuffed in pastry and fried until done.
SCONES - small, rich, biscuit-like pastries baked in an oven or on a
griddle. They're famous culinary exports from Britain!
WRAPPS - tortillas wrapped around a variety of fillings.
